£1,000 reward for information to help catch swan killer

£1,000 is being offered to anyone with information leading to the conviction of the person or persons who cut off a swan’s head at Fleet Pond on Monday.

The offer, by a Brighton-based businessman who wished to remain anonymous, came after he was appalled to read of the vicious act on the BBC news website yesterday.

In an email to Countryside Ranger, Steve Lyons, the gentleman said:

“I saw the appalling story about the poor swan and would like to offer £1000 as a reward for information leading to a prosecution.

“The poor swan must have suffered terribly and I really hope the police find the people involved.”

Welcoming the help Mr Lyons said:

“It’s great that people care so much that they’re prepared to put up money to help catch the people that committed this terrible crime. I just hope that this helps to persuade someone to come forward with the information the police need to catch those who did this.”

Officers from Hampshire Constabulary have launched an investigation into the incident and a number of enquiries are being carried out, including a forensic examination of the bird.
